mHealthBELGIUM is the Belgian platform for mobile applications that are CE-marked as a medical device. It offers all the relevant and necessary information to patients, healthcare professionals and healthcare institutions regarding these mobile applications. The information on this platform covers CE-marking, GDPR, compliance with security and authentication rules and how the app is financed.

Mobile Health ensures that patients, their family and various healthcare providers can permanently collect, visualize and exchange medical care data using digital applications (hardware and software). Mobile Health also ensures that reports become available through the e-health services.
Action plan 19 of the eHealth plan addresses the intended goals with regard to mobile health. The objective of the action plan was to integrate mobile health applications into the Belgian healthcare system. Pilot projects were launched to determine the framework required to integrate this type of application successfully.

The Belgian government’s eHealth action plan purposed to leverage the potential of mobile healthcare, in part by ensuring that mobile applications for healthcare are included in standard healthcare programs.
The deadline for submitting a project was 30 September 2016. A total of 98 projects were submitted, of which 24 were selected by a working group composed of experts from the Belgian National Institute for Health and Disability Insurance (NIHDI), FPS Public Health, the Federal Agency for Medicines and Health Products (FAMHP)) and the eHealth platform.

These projects were launched at the beginning of 2017. The projects are distributed among various healthcare topic i.e STROKE CARe, DIABETES CARE, CHRONIC PAIN, MENTAL HEALTHCARE, CARDIOVASCULAR DISEASE, ONCOLOLGY, SLEPP AND CODP

In 2018, the public authorities introduced the mHealth pyramid:
